Olson Personal Injury Lawyers' Connection to the University of Denver Sturm College of Law

Every attorney at Olson Personal Injury Lawyers earned a law degree from the same school: the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. All five of the firm’s attorneys are graduates, with classes ranging from 1996 to 2021. For a firm headquartered in Denver and serving injured people across Colorado, New Mexico, and Wyoming, that shared education is part of who we are. It is also more than a line on a résumé. Our founder has taught and coached trial advocacy at DU, and one of our attorneys came up through the same trial advocacy program as a nationally ranked student competitor.

This page explains those connections. It is written by the firm about its own attorneys; the University of Denver has not sponsored or endorsed it.

Our Attorneys Trained at University of Denver Sturm College of Law

Every attorney at Olson Personal Injury Lawyers earned their law degree from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. Our connection to DU Sturm has continued beyond graduation through teaching, mentorship, and involvement in Colorado’s legal community.

For our attorneys, giving back to the institution that helped shape their legal careers is an important part of supporting the next generation of Colorado lawyers.

  • Allison Pritchard, J.D., 2016. Allison earned her undergraduate degree at Regis University in Denver before completing her J.D. at DU.

Giving Back to the DU Sturm Community

Teaching Trial Advocacy at DU Sturm

After building his practice, Sean Olson returned to his alma mater to teach trial advocacy as an adjunct professor. The law school's own course schedules list him as the instructor for its Moot Court: Ethics Team in the 2011-12 academic year and for Trial Practice III, National Trial Team, in fall 2015. Sean also served as a coach for DU's National Trial Team. The law school's Center for Advocacy credits him as coach of student squads that reached the national semifinals of the 2014 Tournament of Champions at Baylor Law School, placed fifth of 22 teams at Georgetown Law's National White Collar Crime Trial Advocacy Tournament (where one of his students won the tournament's Best Advocate award), and advanced in AAJ and ABA regional trial competitions through the 2017-18 season. For Sean, teaching trial advocacy is an extension of the work he does for clients every day: helping a jury understand who a person is, what happened to them, and why it matters.

From DU's Trial Advocacy Program to the Courtroom

Phillip J. Meinkoth experienced DU's trial advocacy program from the student side. As his biography describes, he discovered his passion for trial work in law school and received the Director's Award for Excellence in Trial Advocacy. DU's published competition record shows Phillip and his partner reaching the national quarterfinals (Top 8 in the country) of the National Trial Competition in 2020-21, after winning regional championships in 2019-20 and 2020-21. He was also named Best Advocate in the law school's 2019-20 Daniel S. Hoffman Memorial Trial Advocacy Competition and served as vice-president of the Student Trial Lawyers Association.

Supporting the Next Generation of Colorado Lawyers

Our attorneys' commitment to legal education extends beyond DU's classrooms. Matthew Broderick coaches mock trial law students and judges mock trial competitions. He also mentors students in LAW SCHOOL...Yes We Can, the Colorado pipeline program founded by U.S. District Judge Christine Arguello to help students from underrepresented and disadvantaged backgrounds get into and graduate from law school. Matt has also held leadership roles in Colorado's organized bar, including chair of the Denver Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division and voting member of the Colorado Bar Association's Board of Governors.

Why Our DU Training Matters for You

Clear Communication and Strong Advocacy

Our attorneys’ DU Sturm education provided a foundation in legal analysis, advocacy, and trial preparation. Those skills help us evaluate complicated legal and factual issues, build persuasive arguments, and explain your options in terms you can understand.

When questions arise about liability, damages, medical evidence, or the value of your claim, we explain what they mean for your case and why we recommend a particular strategy. If your case proceeds toward trial, that same foundation in advocacy helps us prepare to present your case clearly and persuasively.

Local Knowledge Built Over Years in Colorado

Our attorneys began their legal training in Colorado and went on to build their careers here. Studying at DU Sturm provided early exposure to Colorado’s legal environment, while years of representing injured clients have deepened that knowledge through practical experience.

For you, that means working with attorneys who understand the legal landscape in which your Colorado personal injury claim will be handled. Our roots here also give us familiarity with the communities we serve and the issues that affect injured people across the state.

Attorneys Invested in the Community They Serve

Our relationship with DU Sturm did not end at graduation. Through teaching, mentorship, mock trial activities, and other involvement with the law school, our attorneys continue to invest their time and experience in Colorado’s legal community.

That involvement reflects something important about how we practice law: this is our community too. We have built our careers here, developed lasting professional relationships here, and help prepare the lawyers who will serve Colorado in the future. When we represent an injured client, we are serving the same community in which we live and work.
