The Rocky Mountain Invitational brought together sponsors, professional guides, volunteers, and Veterans for an inspiring day of fly fishing and camaraderie on one of Colorado’s premier trout fishing venues.
Hosted at Rawhide Ranch through the generosity of Flyfish Colorado and proudly sponsored by Olson Personal Injury Lawyers, the event supported Project Healing Waters‘ therapeutic mission.
Community Impact
The Rocky Mountain Invitational demonstrated the power of community-driven fundraising. By bringing together fly shops, Veterans, sponsors, and outdoor enthusiasts, the event raised critical funds supporting both the Denver PHW program and national initiatives.
Funds raised will directly enable the continued delivery of fly-fishing outings, skills-building classes, fly-tying workshops, and one-on-one “Take A Vet Fishing” experiences, all at no cost to our Veteran participants.
The Denver PHW program’s success depends entirely on committed volunteers and generous supporters. This year’s invitational exemplified that commitment, showcasing how meaningful collaboration creates lasting healing opportunities for our nation’s Veterans.
About Project Healing Waters
Project Healing Waters (PHW) began in 2005 serving wounded military service members at Walter Reed Army Medical Center returning from combat in Iraq and Afghanistan. Since then, PHW has expanded nationwide, establishing its program in Department of Defense hospitals, Warrior Transition Units, and at Veterans Affairs Medical Centers and clinics.
PHW is a leading nonprofit in therapeutic outdoor recreation, using the sport of fly fishing as a powerful healing intervention. The restorative healing powers of nature and the outdoors are well-documented: for our Veteran and military participants, the camaraderie, connectedness, and community found in our programs, alongside the symbiotic relationship between Veteran and volunteer, directly correlate to increased sense of belonging, resilience, and post-traumatic growth.
The Denver Program remains one of the largest and most successful PHW programs in the nation, entirely staffed by committed volunteers and supported by donations, grants, fundraising, and sponsorships like the Rocky Mountain Invitational.
