What Questions Should You Always Ask Your Lawyer During Your Consultation?

There’s a number of questions you need to ask your lawyer at the time you have your first consultation with them for a personal injury case. And the first question is one you have to ask yourself… And that question is, do I like this person?

A personal injury case is a marathon, not a sprint. It is not something that you are going to enter into and be done with 2 weeks later. You’re far more likely to be done many months and potentially years later, and that means you’re developing a relationship with your lawyer that needs to last that period of time. And if you don’t like that person, it’s going to make that relationship very, very difficult.

The second question you need to ask is of a lawyer… And that question is, have you done this kind of thing before? Because not every lawyer is made the same. Not every lawyer has the same experience and knowledge that another does. And what that means is, is a car accident case is not the same as an airline crash, which isn’t the same as a medical malpractice case. Each kind of case requires a specialized field of knowledge and experience. And if you are bringing a case to a lawyer, you want to make sure that that lawyer has the experience and knowledge to handle your case.

And finally, you need to ask that lawyer whether that lawyer has the time and the resources to handle your case appropriately. Personal injury cases are expensive, and the more complex they are, the more expensive and time-consuming they become. And if a lawyer doesn’t have the time or the resources to properly prosecute that case, your case is not going to work out in the best way possible.

And you need to make sure and ask that lawyer whether they do have the time and the resources to do it.
