How Common Are Skii Accidents in Colorado?

Ski accidents, skier on skier, snowboarder on skier, collisions occur on the mountain frequently, and there’s a multitude of reasons why that happens. So we have individuals who are drinking or smoking before they start skiing, or they’re doing it while they’re skiing, and the mountain provides ample opportunity to do that. They have restaurants and they provide substances to people while you on the mountain.

We have instances where collisions are occurring because of substance use, but we also have collisions that are occurring because individuals are participating in a sport outside of their ability.

A lot of people come to Colorado to ski. That is a huge attraction because the Rocky Mountains are beautiful. I grew up in Wisconsin. If you are skiing in Wisconsin and you go to Colorado to ski, those are two completely different experiences.

When you come to Colorado, a bunny hill is a black diamond or a double black in Wisconsin. So we have people coming from all over the United States, from all over the world, and they don’t necessarily know their limit. So we have a lot of people that come here and go down hills. They are not equipped to be skiing down these hills and a collision will occur.
