If someone else is driving your car and they get into a wreck, make sure to contact your insurance company right away to make sure that you’re covered in the event that anything happens. And once you’ve contacted your own insurance company, make sure the person who is driving your car contacts theirs as well. Both of you could potentially be held responsible.
The driver who’s driving your car can be held responsible for any unreasonable or negligent acts they undertook to cause the crash. And you can be held responsible if a jury was to determine that you are unreasonable in lending your car out in the first place.
Generally speaking, in all 50 states, both you and the driver can be held responsible for what happens. The best advice I can give anybody who’s lending their car out to someone else is make sure that driver is safe, make sure they have a good driving record, and make sure that they know that they can never ever drive while intoxicated or under the influence of any kind of drug.
